At first, this blue tick was given just to public figures like celebrities and has now been made available to others including journalists and bloggers. Getting the blue tick requires that you get to apply for it providing clear explanations as to why you need one.

For some time since 2017, the twitter verification scheme was suspended though the blue tick was still quietly being handed to people. But reliable news has it that, the verification process which gives people the blue checkmarks next to their names may be reintroduced though it has not yet been confirmed officially.

The main motive for the reintroduction for of the blue checkmark is to ensure transparency and the quality of twitter users. That verified badge goes to prove that, an account of public interest is genuine and that the user has proven to be who they say they are. This helps to prevent impersonification or the existence of fake accounts. The verified badge usually appears in the top-right corner of the user’s profile page just above the users’ name, location and bio.

Twitter has been working on a new verification process as well as introducing new features. They are more focused on creating a safe online community for its users especially with issues related to online abuse, cyber bullying and harassment. Users who are guilty of this have their features being limited and in some cases the tweets will be taken down.

The new verification process has not yet been made public but normally, the procedure is not difficult as the user just has to provide information related to their account. Users are always asked to provide an official name, number and email.

You will also need to state clearly the reason why you should be verified and also provide an official document like an identity card, driver’s license or passport in order to prove the name and account belong to you.
